The truth is…. we will never know.

Einstein was a man of many words and much intellect, however, his last words will never be known. On his death bed, his last words were spoken in his native language of German. The only person there was the nurse who didn’t speak the language.

Albert Einstein died on 18 April 1955 of an of an aneurysm rupture. He had surgery before 7 years prior in 1948 to have it reinforced. He later refused surgery again saying “I want to go when I want. It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share, it is time to go. I will do it elegantly.”

Theory of General Relativity

Albert Einstein is world famous, mostly for his work on his Theory of General Relativity. Besides this being a huge break through in science and trying to understand how the Universe works, it is more impressive because he announced this in 1915. Back then there was no way to test the theory and most physicists had no idea what he was talking about. Most people today don’t even understand it and yet he thought of it in detail over 100 years ago.

For decades, this theory was strife with controversy, but from the 1960’s onwards, the theory is the generally considered the best way so far to explain how space, time and gravity works. Imagine predicting something, especially invisible to the naked eye, 50+ years before humans have the means to try test it. If you want to try understand it yourself, here is the best video I have found to explain it. [Spoiler, I still don’t fully understand it]

Besides his brilliant mind, he was a brilliant human being. Arthur C. Clarke remarked “Einstein’s unique combination of genius, humanist, pacifist, and eccentric that made him accessible – and even lovable – to tens of millions of people”
