A waterfall that defies gravity? Sounds like Science fiction. But that’s exactly what you will find in Oahu Island, Hawaii. Press play on the video below!
This phenomenon looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. Defying the laws of gravity or hitting an invisible force. However it is much simpler than this.
When there has been a lot of rain in the region on Oahu Island, Hawaii, the Waipuhia Falls can be an impressive site. However when the strong North Easterly Trade winds hit the falls at the same time, the sheer wind power alone is strong enough to push the water back up and over, creating the illusion that the waterfall is falling upside down.
This is incredibly rare and needs the right amount of elements and timing to be made possible, it is still a site to behold.
This isn’t the only place where waterfalls seem to defy the laws of physics though. Have a look below at other times this phenomenon has happened elsewhere.
So the next time someone shows you a pic of a beautiful waterfall, tell them “that’s nothing. I’ve seen an up side down waterfall!”
